PocketFuel Product Review

In keeping with my Clean Eating, I am always on the lookout for whole food fuel.  PocketFuel was mentioned to me on my Facebook page, so I reached out to them, and they sent some samples to review and giveaway.  I received all 8 flavors:
CRUNCHY BANANA BLUEBERRY; CHUNKY COCONUT CHERRY; CHOCOLATE ESPRESSO; CHIA, GOJI & HONEY; PINEAPPLE COCONUT; CHOCOLATE HAZE; VANILLA HAZE; CHOCOLATE SMACKAROON

PocketFuel is nut butter based, and they do a great job of combining the flavors of the nuts with other whole food ingredients such as cocoa, coffee, coconut and fruits to name a few.  With a slightly sweet flavor from the added organic cane sugar, and no after taste of artificial sweeteners, they have a balanced flavor without being too sweet.  Being a peanut butter fan, I prefer the flavors made with a base of peanuts over the hazelnuts.  My favorite flavor is the Chocolate Smackeroon: peanuts, evaporated cane juice, cocoa powder, organic coconut, organic raw virgin coconut oil and sea salt.  You end up with a slightly crunchy texture due to the whole bits of coconut pieces and a slightly sweet and salty flavor due to the evaporated cane juice and sea salt.

Some describe the texture of PocketFuel as a bit gritty because of the sugar and sea salt.  I personally enjoy the crunch from the bits of nuts, fruit, coconut, or coffee found in the other flavors.

As a whole food product, you need to “squish and squeeze to blend” before you eat it.  I personally prefer to use these as pre-workout fuel or post workout fuel for recovery, but they can also be used as fuel during an endurance activity.

The best flavors to use during an endurance activity are the chocolate or vanilla haze because of their higher sugar content and smoother texture.  They can be diluted easily to keep you hydrated as they provide nourishment at the same time.  Since it is a little thicker than your average GU or gels, you will need a little more water to wash it down.  They use whole food ingredients and that means they can be digested without the GI issues caused by most gels, which is a nice thing.

According to Pocketfuel.com:
PocketFuel Nut Butter blends are packed with many important B-complex group of vitamins such as riboflavin, niacin, thiamin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B-6, and folates. These vitamins functions as co-factors for enzymes during cellular substrate metabolism.

They are also a rich source of minerals like manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, selenium and sodium. These electrolytes are absorbed efficiently into the bloodstream, speeding fluid to your cells to refuel, rehydrate and replenish your body.  Quick absorption is essential for warding off fatigue, cooling the body and achieving peak performance.

A few serving suggestions:
Try it right out of the pouch, squeeze it on a banana, stir it into your oatmeal, spread it on toast or a tortilla, or even smear it on an apple.
